About LSVA

Lone Star Veterans Association, Houston, TX

Mission:

Help make Houston the best place for Post 9/11 veterans and their families. Veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) share a common bond that will connect us for the rest of our lives.

LSVA membership is free to all Post 9/11 vets and their families. LSVA will provide an accessible support system and social outlet for the service members transitioning back into civilian life through programs, events and peer mentoring. If you have been out of the service for years or simply a few weeks, we invite you to join us to help our brothers- and sisters-in-arms translate experience and skills from the battlefield, into successful civilian life.

The Lone Star Veterans Association was started by just a handful of dedicated volunteers in the spring of 2009 to become an online and physical network of veterans who served after September 11, 2001 in Operations Enduring, Iraqi Freedom & New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) in the Houston area.  Nearly three years later, LSVA has grown to approximately 2,500 veterans and their families throughout the Greater Houston Area and continues to grow daily.

LSVA was formally established as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in December 2009 and has largely operated on cash donations from its officers, companies and charitable individuals.  Although not much money has been raised, LSVA has grown to become a staple in the transition from military to civilian life by offering direct, innovative programs and camaraderie for free.

The majority of LSVA’s services are delivered online in the form of valuable and accessible information, including weekly job postings on VetsList, camaraderie events, and sports programs.

Because LSVA has grown so rapidly due to the dedication of its core volunteers and solid membership base, several of the founders and officers have recognized that a certain responsibility needs to be taken in continuing to grow the organization into a more permanent and professional association of local Post 9/11 veterans.
